Maple: Preview Page Also called Rock Maple, Hard Maple grows throughout the United States, east of the Rocky Mountains, with the exception of Florida, South Carolina, and Delaware. It is most prominent in the New England states, Great Lakes region, and Canadian Great Lakes provinces.

This domestic hardwood ranges in color from reddish-brown to light tan, and takes stains and polishes well. With a fine, uniform texture and close grain, Hard Maple is a very strong wood. Due to its strength and stiffness, it ranks as one of the more valuable hardwoods.

Hard Maple is suitable for pepper mills and pepper grinders because it is also excellent for turning. Hard Maple brings a long-standing American tradition of durability to our Exotic Woods Pepper Mills.

Padauk: Preview Page An eye-catching wood from Africa, Padauk boasts an intriguing color that varies from a rich crimson or brick red, to reddish-purple streaks, to bright-orange. It darkens over time to a deep reddish-brown.

This very dense exotic wood polishes to an excellent finish. Padauk is used for wood turning, wood carving and flooring, among many other applications and some on some of the finest wood products.

Padauk adds vibrant color to our Exotic Woods Pepper Mills.

Hickory: Preview Page A domestic hardwood, Hickory is the hardest, heaviest, and strongest North American wood in common everyday use.

Varying from brown to reddish-brown in color, with a very coarse texture and usually straight grain, Hickory is a woodworking standard for strength and durability.

An American favorite, Hickory brings strength and durability to our Exotic Woods Pepper Mills.

Purpleheart: Preview Page Originating from the tropical regions of Central America and South America, Purpleheart ranges in color from purple to almost dark brown.

This exotic wood is generally straight-grained, sometimes interlocked, with a fine, even texture. Among its advantages are a substantial hardness and strength. Purpleheart polishes well with no staining required.

With very diverse applications, the wood is a beneficial addition to your pepper mill.

As its name indicates, Purpleheart adds unusual purple hues, creating a striking contrast to other woods in our Exotic Woods Pepper Mills.

Walnut: Preview Page Among the most beautiful and well-known domestic hardwoods, Walnut is a rich chocolate brown with a uniform texture. The inherent durability of this domestic hardwood makes it a popular choice in furniture construction.

Walnut is considered to be one of the finest and widely used woods in the United States. It's also an excellent choice for carving and lathe work.

Walnut adds a touch of American tradition, as well as rich color and texture, to our Exotic Woods Pepper Mills.

Sipo Preview Page: Also known as Utile, this common mahogany-related African hardwood and can have a very attractive grain pattern. The grain is usually broadly interlocked, producing a ribbon or wide, often irregular stripe on quartersawn surfaces. The sapwood is light brown in color, and is well demarcated from the heartwood. The heartwood matures from pink-brown to deep red-brown or purple-brown in color which gives a rich and elegant visual appeal to the other exotic woods used in our Pepper Mills and Salt Mills. It polishes to a fine finish and wood surfaces can be made highly lustrous.

Bubinga: Preview Page Bubinga is one of the most beautiful African hardwood lumbers. Due to its fine, tight grain and reddish-brown color, the exotic wood is often referred to as "African Rosewood". Bubinga's colorations range from bright red to pink or violet with dark streaks.

Bubinga is also ideal for furniture making, usually for tables, as large slabs of the dense wood can be easily cut and used as tabletops.

This exotic wood adds the allure of fine graining and rich, reddish hues to our Exotic Woods Pepper Mills.

Wenge: Preview Page A special dark wood found in Tropical West Africa, Zaire, Cameroon, Gabon, and Tanzania. Boasting a very distinctive look, Wenge ranges from dark brown to black, with fine black veins and white lines.

The wood is popular in segmented woodturning because of its dimensional stability and color contrast when mixed with lighter woods, such as Maple. This makes it especially sought after in the manufacturing of high-end wood products.

The exotic wood is prized for wood sculpting, because it cuts easily and has a beautiful grain and interesting colorations.

With its deep, dark tones and rich grain, Wenge adds significant artistic appeal to our Exotic Woods Pepper Mills.

Goncalo Alves: Preview Page Goncalo Alves is commonly called tigerwood which underscores the wood's often dramatic, contrasting color scheme. Color ranges from light to orangish/reddish brown to deep mahogany red-brown with a striking figure in some pieces created by beautiful, bold, brown to nearly black irregular markings or striping.

This fine hardwood, varying from straight to interlocked and wavy grain with a fine to medium texture and uniform and is very strong and durable. Well-known in the U.S. in spite of its high density, it turns readily, carves well. The wood has a natural luster. It can be finished very easily and polishes very well due to the fine texture. The right piece can be very dramatic.

Imported from Central and Latin America; Brazil is a major exporter of the wood, but it also comes from Argentina, Bolivia, Colombia, Columbia, Costa rica, Ecuador, Guyana, Honduras, Mexico, Paraguay, Peru, Trinidad and Tobago, Uruguay, and Venezuela.

However, the wood is not imported for its strength, but goncalo alves is usually prized for its beauty: one of the reasons we use it in our pepper mills and salt mills. The unique characteristics of this wood add a distinctive decorative element to our Exotic Woods Pepper Mills.

Madrone: Preview Page Renowned for its rich medley of colors, ranging from pink to red. Found in the northwest region of the United States, this heavy wood has a fine, smooth, and even texture.

Well-suited for many applications, including turned work, bowls, novelties and souvenirs, Madrone is also very popular for inlay work. The burl of the tree, which is often used for furniture work and marquetry, is reported to be scarce and very expensive.

Madrone is often used in the construction of high-end wood products and adds rich red hues to our Exotic Wood Pepper Mills.

To Make Sure you and future generations will be able to enjoy

Mechanism Used: Our peppermill grinders are manufactured by "Chef Specialties" that has been producing quality metal components for three generations. Theses grinders are crafted from solid, cutlery-grade stainless steel to withstand the rigors of commercial use. With the lowest return rate in the food service industry, it's not a surprise that "Chef Specialties" peppermill grinders are considered the finest by many of the world's top Executive Chefs. These mechanisms carry a lifetime warranty, which is backed up by our 100% satisfaction guarantee. Our salt mills are fitted with non-corroding nylon gears.

Finish: We finish our pepper mills (grinders) and salt mills using a commercial grade, high gloss lacquer with an added catalyst to give the finished product a more durable finish. We than buff the finish in a three step process with the proper polishing compounds to produce a high gloss, quality finish which can be seen on the photos of these mills.

For those who prefer a more "natural" wood finish, our mills are sanded step by step with different grits of sandpaper until we have achieved the "smoothness" that is required for the next step. The mill is then put through a four step process of buffing with different compounds and finally finished with a type of "carnauba" wax, which gives the mill a more "natural" look, and yet ends up with a durable finish to be used in any type of food preparation.
